Former Dealership Sites

BMC Dealer Network

I decided to have a look at what had become of some of the former dealership sites and here are some of the photos.  In 2002, several were still car dealerships, others had become luxury appartment blocks and some were vacant lots waiting redevelopment.

The former site of D. Lorrimer Pty Ltd is probably better remembered as the location of the first IKEA furniture shop in NSW (and possibly Australia, I'm not sure). The Gordon branch was established in the seventies and IKEA only ceased trading there in there around the turn of the century after expanding its two additional Sydney outlets before closing them and opening a mega-store at Homebush Bay. The site is now being redeveloped as an office/retail tower.

This is just a small selection of the hundreds of dealerships that once formed the mighty public face of the British Motor Corporation.
